WE ARE OPEN! What to Know Before You Go: Rules & Regulations for Dog Park

dog park pass

Hooray! Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to making Downtown's first dog park a reality! Now that we are open, please note that accessing and using the park requires an annual or day pass from Milwaukee County that can be purchased here.

In addition, there are important rules, regulations, and etiquette to note prior to visiting the dog park, including:

  • NOTICE: This DEA Is Entered at Your Own Risk. Dog Owners/ Guardians Are Solely Responsible for the Control and Behavior of Their Dogs at All Times inside and outside of the DEA.
  • No more than 3 dogs allowed per owner/guardian, per visit within the DEA.
Dogs are the ONLY type of animal allowed within the DEA.
  • Owner/Guardian must be present within the fenced enclosure of the DEA and is responsible and liable for behavior of their dog(s) at all times. Milwaukee County, Run PKG, Inc. or any of its affiliates are NOT liable for the actions of any dog within or outside the boundaries of the DEA.
  • Owner/guardian is responsible for cleaning up and properly disposing of dog excrement.
  • All dogs must display dog license and DEA annual tag while in the DEA (Wisconsin State Statute 174.07 and Milwaukee County Ordinance 29.01). If you purchase a day permit, your permit and receipt will be emailed to the email address provided. Please have it available to show a Park Ranger.
  • All dogs MUST BE CURRENT WITH VACCINATIONS. All dogs are required to be current with rabies vaccination in accordance with Wisconsin State Statute 174. Dogs MUST be free of communicable illness and parasites (worms, fleas, & ticks).
  • Owner/guardian must have in their possession a leash for each dog(s) and remain within view and voice control of their dog(s) at all times. Dog(s) must be on-leash until you enter the double-gated entry and make sure to close all gates behind you. Unleash your dog before entering the play area.
  • Upon entering, make sure only one gate is open at a time.
  • For the safety of your dog(s) and those of others, choke, pinch, spike, or training collars are not allowed in the DEA. Remove such collars upon entering the DEA.
  • Aggressive dog(s) and/or dog(s) with known aggressive behavior are PROHIBITED from the DEA.
  • Female dogs in heat are PROHIBITED.
  • Small Children are NOT recommended in the DEA. Children MUST be accompanied by a parent/guardian and MUST be supervised.
  • You MUST NOT bring food or glass containers into the DEA.
  • Strollers are not recommended.

Follow all park rules and regulations as stated in Chapter 47 of the Milwaukee County Ordinances. Violation of the DEA rules and Petiquette may result in the forfeiture of your permit for any and all dogs under the owner/guardian’s care and supervision.

PETIQUETTE

  • In addition to rabies, we recommend all dogs be current with distemper and parvovirus vaccinations.
  • We recommend that puppies under 6 months old NOT use the DEA, as they have not yet received their full inoculations to protect them from distemper and parvovirus, as well as other diseases.
  • If your dog is ill, please return when your veterinarian says there is no risk to other dogs.
  • Please evaluate your own dogs prior to bringing them to the DEA – ensure that they are well socialized so that they can be off-leash in this area.
  • If your dog digs, please stop them from damaging the pet turf. Violators of the DEA rules and Petiquette will be asked to leave the DEA.
  • Please clean up after your dog and yourself. Place all of your trash and pet waste in the appropriate receptacles. Be a good neighbor and please do your part to keep the DEA and surrounding areas clean for all to enjoy.
  • It’s time to leave the DEA if: your dog is showing aggression toward another dog or person, your dog is panting or drooling excessively, or your dog is showing other signs of injury or fatigue.
